AI Dubbing | The automated process of replacing the original audio of a video with a localized AI-generated version, preserving the original tone and emotion. |
ASR (Automatic Speech Recognition) | The technology that turns spoken audio into text. Dubly.AI uses ASR to create your transcript. |
Dialect | A regional variant of a language, e.g., Spanish Peninsular vs. Spanish Latin American. |
Voice Cloning | A sophisticated technology that analyzes the unique characteristics of an original voice and replicates them, allowing the translation to sound like the original speaker. |
Lip-Sync (Visual Alignment) | The AI-driven modification of the speaker's mouth movements in the video to match the phonetic sounds of the target language. |
Speech-to-Text (STT) | The underlying process of transcribing the spoken audio from the source file into a written script for translation. |
Source Language | The language originally spoken in the uploaded video. Dubly.AI uses auto-detection, but this can be manually adjusted for better accuracy. |
Target Language | The destination language into which you want your content translated and dubbed. |
Dub | A "Dub" refers to the final synchronized audio track in the target language. Unlike a simple voiceover, a dub aims to match the timing, tone, and performance of the original speaker, creating a seamless viewing experience in a new language. |

SRT File (SubRip Subtitle) | A widely compatible, plain-text file format used for subtitles. An SRT file exported from Dubly.AI contains: |
Organization | The container for your projects, team members, billing plan, and Translation Styles. Every Dubly.AI account belongs to at least one organization, created automatically at signup. A single login can belong to multiple organizations. |
Organization Switcher | The dropdown at the top of the sidebar for jumping between organizations you belong to. Only visible if multi-organization access is enabled on your account. |
Roles (Owner, Admin, Member, Native Speaker) | The four permission levels inside an organization. Owner has full control including billing (one per organization). Admin manages Members and Native Speakers. Member works on projects but cannot manage the team. Native Speaker is a review-focused role for teammates quality-checking dubs in their native language. |
Subdub | A per-target-language version of a Dub. One Dub with three target languages contains three subdubs, one per language. Each subdub can have its own Translation Style, voice assignment, and lip-sync status. |
Translation Style | A reusable bundle of translation rules for a specific source–target language pair. Includes a do-not-translate list, custom word pairs, pronunciation hints, writing style, tone, and formality. Applied per target language when creating a Dub. Used to keep brand terminology consistent. |
Do-Not-Translate List | A section of a Translation Style listing words that must stay in the source language. Typical use: brand names, product names, trademarks, URLs, SKUs. |
Custom Voice | A voice pre-configured for your organization that can be selected as the speaking voice for a Dub, overriding the automatic voice clone. Stored with an ElevenLabs Voice ID. |
Voice ID | The unique identifier for a voice in our voice-synthesis provider (ElevenLabs). Used internally to tell the TTS system which voice to use for a given speaker. Every Custom Voice and every automatically generated voice clone has one. |
Speaker Assignment | The step in the dub workflow where you confirm which cloned voice belongs to which on-screen speaker. Triggered automatically when Dubly.AI detects more than one speaker in your source video. The Dub pauses in the "Assign Voices" state until you complete this step. |
Subscription Minutes | The minutes (credits) included in your monthly or yearly plan. Reset at the start of every billing cycle — unused minutes do not roll over. Always spent before any one-time-purchase minutes. |
One-Time-Purchase Minutes (OTP) | Minutes bought as a one-off top-up outside your subscription. Never expire. Used automatically once your subscription minutes run out in a cycle. |
API Token | A credential for programmatic access to Dubly.AI via the public API. Tied to a specific organization; anything created with the token (dubs, credit usage) happens in that organization. Created and revoked from Settings → API. |
